Silver Fox — a 1994 Ford F-350 that became anything but subtle.
THE STORY
Silver Fox started as a tired old farm truck that had already spent years earning every dent.
I picked it up in late 2018 as a basically stock 1994 F-350 crew-cab dually with faded paint, beat-up fiberglass fenders, and the original 7.3 IDI with an aftermarket turbo.
At first, I was just fixing things and cleaning the truck up. The first real project was repairing the fiberglass rear fenders. Then the original engine let go while pulling an overloaded 20-foot car trailer from Washington State to California.
That failure changed everything.
The engine had to come out anyway, and that sent me spiraling down the rabbit hole every builder knows:
“Well… might as well.”
Might as well swap the engine.
Might as well upgrade the transmission.
Might as well redo the suspension.
Might as well build the truck I actually wanted.
That’s when Silver Fox stopped being an old farm truck I was repairing and became a full-blown custom build.
THE BUILD
What started as an engine replacement quickly became a complete transformation.
Silver Fox is now being built around a fully built 6.1L stroker 12-valve Cummins—with nitrous on tap if the need arises—backed by a fully built, forged-internal 47RH with a full-manual valve body built to handle the massive torque.
The truck now rides on a full custom air-ride suspension, dropping it more than 18 inches from where it started and completely changing its stance.
From there, the “might as well” rabbit hole only got deeper: shaved exterior door handles, one piece windows, suicide rear doors, Bear Claw electric latches with safety pins, a 2012 F-150 black leather interior swap , a Holley 12.3-inch Pro Dash with EGT monitoring, and a fully planned Alpine audio system.
But some of the biggest parts of Silver Fox are the things most people will never notice at first glance—custom wiring, relay logic, safety interlocks, Deutsch connectors, removable electronics panels, and countless hours spent making every system work together as one complete build.
WHY THIS BUILD MATTERS
Silver Fox represents taking an idea and figuring out how to make it real.
There was never some perfect master plan. It started as a beat-up working farm truck and grew through repairs, failures, new ideas, mistakes, redesigns, and learning as I went.
That’s what building means to me.
It isn’t just ordering parts and bolting them on. It’s looking at a problem and figuring out how to solve it. It’s fabricating something when what you need doesn’t exist. It’s being willing to tear something back apart when you realize there’s a better way.
And at the end of it, you’ve created something nobody else could have built exactly the same way—because every decision along the way made it yours.
FAVORITE DETAILS
My favorite details are the ones most people will never notice.
The shaved-and suicide doors. the custom inner workings of the one piece front windows The custom wiring with Deutsch connectors. Relay logic. Removable electronics panels. All the little decisions made so something works correctly, stays safe, and can still be serviced years down the road.
Someone may walk up to Silver Fox and just see another slammed crew-cab dually with a Cummins.
I’ll see every wire, connector, bracket, fabricated piece, problem, redesign, and late-night “might as well” decision that got it there.
IN THEIR WORDS
“Silver Fox started as an old farm truck I was just trying to fix up. Then the engine let go, and I fell into that ‘might as well’ rabbit hole every builder knows. If the engine’s coming out, might as well swap it. If I’m doing that, might as well build the transmission. Might as well do the suspension. Before I knew it, I wasn’t fixing an old truck anymore—I was building the truck I actually wanted. One problem, one idea, one wire, and one fabricated part at a time. That’s what makes Silver Fox mine.”
